Gregory Marshall Burney

Gregory Marshall Burney was born August 4, 1963 to Margaret and (the late Randolph) Burney.

Greg went from labor to reward on Thursday, November 19, 2015 after a brief illness.

Gregory was born and raised in St. Matthew’s UFW Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Lloyd Taylor and former pastor Bishop Robert J. Gay. He served in the Jr. Ushers, Jr. Choir, Youth & Young Adult Choir and the Male Chorus. Gregory graduated from St Mary’s High School in 1981. He attended Morgan State University Baltimore, MD. Deciding to make Maryland his home, he went to work as a Driver for Greyhound and traveled extensively for about 5 years. He was a hard worker and was then transferred by Greyhound as an Assistant Terminal Manager to Charlotte, N.C. he remained in that position for approximately 6 years. At the time of his transition he was employed by the City of Charlotte as a ground transportation manager at the airport. He attended Kingdom Worship Center formerly known as Bethel Holy Tabernacle United Holy Church under Bishop Ralph L. Dennis. Greg was active at his church; he served as a Jr. Deacon, Choir president, administration and on the finance team.

Gregory leaves to cherish his memories his Mother, Margaret Burney, his prized possession, LaLa (his dog), Brother Christopher Burney, Sr., Niece, Mariah Burney, Nephews Christopher Burney Jr., and Chase Oliveras. Goddaughter Takira Swan of Baltimore, MD, Godson Wydell Sims Jr. Special cousin Jeanelle Lewis, Atmore, Ala, two special Aunts Mary Longmire of Atmore, Ala and Maxine Johnson, West Haven, CT., Godmother Salena Johnson of Atmore, Ala, two great aunts Madele Andrew and Mildred Lykes of Atmore, Ala, a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will take place at 9:00AM on Saturday November 28, 2015 at St Matthews Unison Free Will Baptist Church; 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, CT 06511 with visitation Saturday at the church from 8 – 9 AM.
