Joanne Z. Johnson, 81, of Raleigh, NC; formerly of New Haven, born on August 14, 1935 in Rosston, AR to the late Webster and Johnnie (Phillips) Zackery, entered eternal rest August 20, 2016.
Joanne worked for many years as a customer service agent for Southern New England Telephone Co. (SNET), where she would eventually retire.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters; Wanda L. Zackery-Lewis of New Haven, Shiretta (Mitchell) Shaw-Wiggins of Raleigh, NC, brothers; Melvin (Ann) Zackery of New Haven, Webster (Margaret) Zackery Jr. and Larry Zackery both of Hamden, sisters Margie Sigular of New Haven, Roxie (John) Atkins of Oakland, CA, 3 grandchildren; Tavonna Davis, Brenden Shaw, Mercedez Lewis, 2 great grandchildren; Mesiah Davis-Santiago, Mekhi Shaw and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brothers, James Zackery, Euradelle Zackery, and Tillman Zackery; and sister, Irene Jackson.
A celebration of her life will take place Monday August 29, 2016 at 11 AM at Bethel AME Church, where she was a faithful member for years; 255 Goffe St., New Haven, CT 06511.
