Johnnie Jack Barnes, devoted husband of 63 years to Oralee Ada Savage, departed this life on February 9, 2015.
He was born on April 7, 1926 to the late Mary Etta Parker and Jack Barnes in North Carolina. He relocated to New Haven in 1959 to make a better life for his family and was joined by his wife and four children in 1961.
Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory four children, daughters Gloria Epps of West Haven, Linda Barnes of Hamden; sons Alfred and Lawrence (Iris) Barnes both of Hamden along with one surviving sibling, his 91 year old brother, Chester Barnes of New York. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 6 sisters and one brother.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 9:00 AM at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church; 100 Webster St., New Haven, CT 06511, with visitation Saturday at the church from 8 – 9 AM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery; 769 Ella T.
