Johnnie Murph Corley, 100

Johnnie Murph Corley, 100, of New Haven, entered into eternal rest Friday, July 8.

She was the widow of Joseph Hasting Corley.

Born in Buffalo, S.C., on Sept. 30, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Pearl Lindsey Murph.

She was a member of Community Baptist Church and was employed as a seamstress at many companies throughout New Haven before retiring at a young age.

Mrs. Corley leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Leatrice Lewis; grandchildren La’Trece Brown, Shunte Corley and Anola Hicks; great-grandchildren Paul Locke, Jr., Kayla Johnson, Modikiah Johnson III, Quayshon Sharpe, Shacore Gibbs, Xyaire Smith and Xyeta Smith; special nieces JoAnn Giles and Thelma Giles; and a host of nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by sisters Claudia Murph and Thelma Norman; brothers Charles and K. Murph; and a grandson, Frank Brown Jr.

A celebration of Mrs. Corley’s life and legacy will be held Friday, July 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 1 – 2 p.m. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden.
