Laura Gilliams, 96, of New Haven, passed away June 17, 2018.
She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio on Sept. 27, 1921, to the late Leroy Skinner and Sarah Louise Harvey Vann. She retired as a registered nurse with the Visiting Nurses Association in the area of school nursing.
Laura was a member of Community Baptist Church; The New Haven Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Eureka Chapter No. 2 Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Clayton (Annette) Gilliams; daughter, Star Gilliams (Ronald) Benson; brother, John (Elaine) Vann; and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Clayton U. Gilliams; sons, Tyrone Gilliams and Kevin Gilliams.
A celebration of her life will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St, Hamden, CT 06517. Friends may call Sunday at the church from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Interment will take place Monday at 10 a.m. at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven. Services by Howard K.
