Marjorie Diggs, 92

Marjorie Hodge Diggs, 92, of New Haven departed this earth on July 8, 2014 at Whitney Manor in Hamden, Conn.

Marjorie was born on September 26, 1921 in Bridgeport, Conn to the late Zack, Sr. and Lucy Early Hodge. She was the wife of the late Henry Edward Diggs. She was baptized on May 2, 1934 at Messiah Baptist Church in Bridgeport. She leaves her children Linda Diggs-Gray of Modesto, Ca., Barry (Angel) Diggs of Hamden, Rodney (Beverly) Diggs of West Haven, Daryl (Joyce) Diggs of Hamden and Kevin H. Diggs of New Haven, Conn. She was proud of her 12 grandchildren: Rodney, Jr., Toure, Danae Reynolds, Anissa Diggs, Barry Diggs, Jr, Tychiah Harrison-Burns, Taj Diggs, Tilon Diggs, Jason Diggs, Landis Diggs, Aliya Stewart and Linda M. Diggs. Gram as she was known was also proud of her great grandchildren and great-great grand-children. She also leaves sister-in-law Ernestyne Diggs Killings and nieces who were like her sisters, Louise Johnson of Trumbull, Vivian Burns of Bridgeport and Shirley Cornwell of Washington, DC., nephews James A. Hodge and Jon A. Hodge and several other nieces and nephews. When King’s Department Store opened in New Haven, she applied as a sales clerk in BOYS”. She said after all, she had four boys and she knew sizes according to ages and how to dress them in style. King’s hired her initially for the housewares department and then promoted her to the Jewelry Department Manager. Gram loved sports, especially, the New York Yankees, she knew players names, positions, stats and worried when they were traded. Gram also loved to watch her children, grandchildren and great –grandchildren participate in dance and sport activities. Gram you will always be in our hearts and our lives. You gave us a good foundation to stand on. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Willie Nelson, Cora Nims, Augustine Gilliam, Dorothy Hamm, James (Al) Alfred Hodge and Zack Hodge, Jr. , brother-in-law, Elmer Diggs and great-grandson, Elijah Tilon Diggs. A celebration of her life will take place Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Bible Gospel Center, 143 Leeder Hill Road, Hamden, CT with a calling hour at the church from 9 – 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Services by Howard K.
