Mary L. Byrd, 86, of New Haven, departed this life on Monday, June 26, 2017 due to advanced stage ALS. She was born in Williamsburg, SC to the late William and Evelina Brockington on August 13, 1930.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, son, Matthew Byrd, Jr.; daughters, Mary A. Byrd and Joan Byrd; sister, Joan Forte; and a multitude of grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Yvonne Barbara Byrd Brooks; brother, Roderick Magellan; sisters, Delores Greenlee and Eunice Mitchell; and great-grandson, Neville “Malacai” Registe, Jr.
A celebration of life took place Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Varick Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 242 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Monday at the church from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ALS Organization in her honor.
