Mary W. McCallum of New Haven, CT, departed this life on July 22, 2011. Born in Waterbury, CT on June 27, 1923 to the late Rev. Emma A. Towles-Shepard and Edgar C. Shepard. She was predeceased by ex-husband Roy Smith Sr. and her late husband James McCallum. She worked as a teacher’s assistant at the Board of Education and was a very strong community activist, known as “Ms. Mary”. She leaves, son, Michele’ E. Smith (Andrea) of West Haven; sister, Mrs. Joanne Keyes of New Haven; brother, Mr. James B. Shepard of Queens, NY; 6 grand children, 8 great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by 2 children, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday July 29, 2011 at 11AM at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT with calling hours from 10 – 11AM.
