Mary Thomas, 79, of New Haven, departed this life March 12, 2014.
She was the widow of Ralph W. Thomas.
Born in Orangeburg, SC, June 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Amaker and Carrie Williams Amaker.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Thomas was employed at the former West Rock Health Care Center as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and was a member of High Praise Faith Tabernacle Church.
She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Paige (Kenneth) and Magdalene Dukes (Eddie); a son, Joseph C. Thomas (Brenda); 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Ralph A. Thomas; a daughter, Mary Ann Scott; and a sister, Lucille Tyler.
A celebration of Mrs. Thomas’ life and legacy will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Chapel New Testament Church, 220 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.
