Matilda Gibbs, 70

Matilda Tillie or Grandma” Gibbs, 76, of New Haven, passed away July 23, 2013.

Born in Milford, CT, October 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Minnie Anna Lewis Wooten.
Prior to retiring, she was employed as an Assistant Director at South Central Connecticut Elderly Nutrition Project and Community Action Agency’s Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her son, Royal Alan Gibbs; grandchildren, Alan A. Gibbs and Tiffany C. Gibbs; a special daughter, Santa Theresa Vasquez Arroyo (Reynaldo); special grandchildren, Reynaldo and Lisa M. Arroyo; great grandchildren, Makaio A. Gibbs and Lily Rose Gibbs Puglisi; special siblings, Lynn M. Bowman Waters, Clarence Skip” Bowman, Jr. and Michele Douyon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her special parents, Clarence Bo” Bowman, Sr. and Bernice Johnson Bowman; siblings, John Herbert, Elmer Henry and Shirley Wooten, Florence King and Evelyn Herring; and a special sister, Patricia Bowman.
A celebration of Ms. Gibbs’ life and legacy will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. Burial will be private. Online guestbook available at curvinkcouncil.com
