Melvin D. Johnson, 69, of New Haven, passed away April 7, 2017.
He was born in Alvonia, Va. to James Johnson and the late Eva Randolph Johnson on May 12, 1947. He worked as a fence installer at Orange Fence.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Melvin Johnson Jr., Rodney Johnson, Anthony Green, Shane Gray, Marquise Johnson, John Pettigrew, Mark (Ramona) Pettigrew, and Travis Richardson; daughters, Kim (Hank) Whaley, Natasha Pettigrew, and Kim (Thomas) Mozell; brothers, George (Lisa), Larry (Joy), Leon (Byrute), and Seth (Nancy) Johnson; sister, Jean Johnson; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nephew, Buddy Shawnie; special brother/friend, Clarence Crowley; and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Marshall Johnson and Jack Johnson; sister, Joan Howard; and grandchildren, Taijhon (Sleepy) Washington and Thomas “TJ” Mozell.
A celebration of life will take place April 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St, New Haven, CT 06511.
