Minnie Carney

Minnie Lucille Carney, 65, of New Haven, departed this life January 20, 2010. She was the widow of Sylvester R. Carney.

Born in Darlington, SC, January 14, 1945, she was a daughter of the late James Edward Lincoln and Janie Wise Lincoln Riley.

She was employed at the Visiting Nurses Association as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for over 10 years and had been employed for over 40 years at U.S. Repeating Arms.

Mrs. Carney was a member of Pocohantas Temple #155.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Elaine Carney Gibbs and Erhonda and Leatha Carney; sons, Sylvester R. Carney, Jr. and Clayton Carney; brothers, Edward Lincoln, Herbert Riley, Jr. and Robert Leon Riley; sisters, Sarah McDuffie, Leola Reddick and Jean Riley; a special friend, Dempsey Woods; foster children, Dapriece Keys and Shaka and Elijah McKnight; thirteen grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her stepfather, Herbert Riley, Sr.; brothers, James, Henry and Jimmy Lincoln; and sisters, Pearlina Lincoln and Joan Riley.

A celebration of Mrs. Carney’s life and legacy will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K.
