Ora Louise Holmes (Johnson)

Ora Louise Holmes (Johnson) was born on April 14th, 1944 to Raymond Johnson and Louise E. Jones (Reed) in Brooklyn, New York.

She graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School. Ora Holmes was a lifetime member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob of the USA. In 1962, she married Sidney R. Holmes, Sr. and they started life together in New Jersey. From this union, 6 children were born. They raised their family in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

In 1989, she moved to New Haven and immediately engaged herself in civic life and ministry.

She is survived by her children, Latanya Holmes Washington (Dana), NJ, Veronica Franklin (Trevor), CT, Sidney R. Holmes, Jr., NJ, Major Holmes, NY, Ronnetta B. Holmes, CT, daughter in-law Cheri Hall-Holmes, CT, sisters; Harvetta Jones, FL, Cheryl Menser and Inez Johnson, NC, brothers; Emanuel Jones, GA, Adrian Johnson, CA, Joseph Johnson, GA, 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, 1 God-daughter, a special God-Sister & friend Mother Verline Woodhouse, and a host of relatives and friends. Ora L. Holmes was predeceased by her parents; son, Russell Sherrod Holmes; brothers George Johnson, Harvey Jones, Jr., Raymond Johnson, Jr., Edward Johnson; and Sister Eleanor Johnson. A celebration of her life will take place Saturday August 27, 2016 at 9AM at The New Trinity Temple C.O.G.I.C; 285 Dixwell Avenue New Haven, CT 06511. A wake will be held Friday August 26, 2016 from 6 – 8PM at The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob; 234 Shelton Avenue New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park; New Haven. Services by Howard K.
