Ruby Hazel Slade, 76, of Winthrop Ave. New Haven, CT entered eternal rest January 31, 2014 with family by her side.
She was born to the late Alberta (Russell) and George Slade Sr. on September 13, 1937 in New Bern, NC. She was employed as an Education Coordinator at New Haven Child Development until she retired. Ms. Slade was a humble woman with a very sweet and gentle personality. She loved cooking and entertaining her friends and family. Her passion to educate the community motivated her to create “Nuts About Health, Inc.” a nonprofit health education organization. She also co hosted a talk show called, “Going Nuts About Health” where she informed people how to have a healthy lifestyle. Her generous and loving spirit will always be remembered. She leaves to cherish her memory; son, Reginald Alan Slade of New Haven; daughters, Robyn Yvette Washington of TX, Dawn Michele Slade of New Haven, and Ann Margaret Slade of New Haven; brothers, Herbert Russell of New Haven, Stephen Slade of NC, Sidney Russell of New Haven; sisters, Mary Russell and Lora Russell of New Haven, Annette Smith of GA; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brother, David I. Russell Sr. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11am at Varick Memorial AME Zion Church, 246 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, CT. Calling hour will be Friday at the church from 10 – 11am. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Services by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511. The family will continue her legacy to educate the community about having a healthy lifestyle.
