nothin Samuel Tilery, 63 | New Haven Independent

Samuel Tilery, 63

On October 24, 1948 Samuel Hall Tilery was born to Margaret Tilery & Samuel Hall. He was the first of 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Leaving Atlantic City as a strong and driven teen, Sammy hailed to New Haven, CT.

Sammy enrolled in the ROTC where he met and won the hearts of Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Osbourne, who eventually adopted Sammy. Sammy attended American International College where he was a member of the football team and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. So many accounts reverberate Sammy as a rock of strength, tolerating absolutely no negativity and this was a value with which he led his family. Family was first and foremost and Sammy’s family grew beyond his loving brothers and sisters. His family embraced co-workers, community, committee and so many others that became endeared to him.

Samuel met Delores Sanders at American International College. They were married July 11, 1981 and from the union were born, Samuel Jr. and Harrisen. Samuel also has an older child Taneesha Gambling who resides in Alpharetta, GA with her husband and children. Taneesha, affectionately known as Mama” was his heart!

Sammy enjoyed his long standing work relationship of over 30 years with WPLR Radio Station as well as WYBC. He worked as a Promotions and Marketing Director and was a member of various organizations and committees.

Battling a failing physical heart, his spiritual heart unselfishly held on to give all his loved ones the opportunity for him to have them say We love you”.

Ecclesiastes 7:1 states A name is better than good oil and the day of death than the day of one’s being born.” Sammy earned his good oil. He made a fine name from the life he led and the fine memories he is leaving us. You leave us with so many loving memories Sammy, and your strength to help us keep going until we see you and feel your great big bear hugs again.
