Willa Beamon Houlihan, 97

Willa Beamon Houlihan, 97, entered into eternal rest in New Haven on Nov. 17, 2016.

She was born in Sunbury, N.C. on Dec. 9, 1918, the seventh of twelve children to the late Noah Brinkley Beamon and Mamie Gatling Beamon.

Willa worked as a licensed practical nurse in various hospitals around New Haven until her retirement in 1983. She joined Varick African Methodist Episcopal Zion church in 1943 and was a devoted member of many committees. Willa was very active in community organizations as well, which included Literary Volunteers of Greater New Haven, Eureka Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliation, and Heroines of Jericho to name a few. 
 
Willa leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted nieces and caregivers, Theresa C. Heyward and Sonja Beamon Rezendes; daughter, Donna Marie Bridges; grandchildren, David, Almasi, Trimayne, and DeBorah Bridges; brothers, Charles Beamon; sister-in-law, Grace; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. 
 
Viewing, Elks and Masonic services will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Nov. 22, 2016 at Varick A.M.E Zion Church, 242 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511. A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
