(Updated) A 24-year-old New Havener named Nicolas Baltazar-Consepcion died early Thursday morning after being hit by a garbage truck in the area of Church Street and North Frontage Road.
City police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart sent out an email press release about that fatal collision at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
He wrote that, at around 2:07 a.m. Thursday, city police officers were dispatched to Church Street and North Frontage Road downtown for “a motor vehicle accident with major injuries involving a refuse truck and a bicyclist.”
Upon arrival, police located the truck and the bicyclist, a 24-year-old man from New Haven. The bicyclist was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The refuse truck driver remained on scene.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the bicyclist entered the roadway from a sidewalk, however the Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation,” Bruckhart wrote.
After not initially naming the cyclist pending notification of his family, Bruckhart identified the cyclist on Thursday evening as Baltazar-Consepcion.
Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866 – 888-TIPS (8477).
