The 26th annual Julia’s Run for Children was held Sunday, April 27, in Edgewood Park in New Haven. Under a beautiful sky, a record number of runners and walkers gathered to celebrate Julia Rusinek’s life and support the vital work of LEAP (Leadership, Education & Athletics in Partnership), making this year’s run the most successful yet.
The event saw a higher turnout than last year, and participants enjoyed the opportunity to connect with others in the community. Runners from across Connecticut and beyond joined together, united in their desire to honor Julia’s memory, support the young people of New Haven, and, of course, run! The 5K route was filled with cheers from supporters and LEAP staff, ending in a celebratory finish line where trophies were awarded to the fastest runners overall and the top performers in each age group.
A highlight of the day was hearing Julia’s sister, Vivian Sobel, share Julia’s poetry, offering a personal glimpse into the remarkable woman whose legacy inspires this run. Her words served as a powerful reminder of the love, compassion, and dedication that Julia embodied.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of participants and the support of lead sponsor Town Fair Tire Foundation, the 26th annual Julia’s Run will have a profound impact on LEAP’s ability to provide free, enriching after-school and summer programs for New Haven youth.
