Lamont (right): Mamdani "surprised the hell out of the establishment down there."
Two days after an unplanned endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for mayor of New York City, Gov. Ned Lamont shared some words of advice for Zohran Mamdani, winner of Tuesday’s New York City Democratic primary: “Get some experienced people around you.”
According to an article from the Connecticut Mirror on Monday, Lamont said he would rank Cuomo, New York’s governor, first on a ranked-choice ballot for mayor.
At an unrelated press conference in New Haven Wednesday, Lamont was asked about the surprise win by the 33-year-old democratic socialist and Queens assemblyman.
Mamdani “surprised the hell out of the establishment down there,” Lamont quipped on Wednesday.
“I salute him,” the Connecticut governor said about the rising star of New York City Democratic politics.
Lamont then cautioned not to “overread” the import of Mamdani’s primary victory.
