Thief Takes The Cake

Sandra's co-owner Miguel Pittman: "I guess they couldn't wait for us to open."

Someone broke into Sandra’s Next Generation restaurant to steal two slices of pineapple coconut cake and a bottle of lemonade.

The theft took place at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, June 9 — one of the restaurant’s days off — according to Sandra’s co-owner Miguel Pittman.

I guess they couldn’t wait for us to open,” Pittman said.

Security footage shows a white-hatted person sneaking into the restaurant’s basement and hastily retrieving the tropical cake and sour refreshment. Within minutes, he exited the building and cycled away.

Police believe the thief broke into the restaurant via the basement doors. It was reported that those doors are typically secure,” and it remains unclear how the thief gained access to the restaurant, said Hill District Manager Jasmine Sanders at Wednesday’s joint Hill South-Hill North community management team meeting.

She said that police haven’t yet found the cake thief, and that nothing beyond the two cake slices and lemonade had been pilfered.

It is unclear whether the thief was motivated by a simple sweet tooth or chronic hunger.

Pittman said that neighbors helped him zero in on a possible identity for the person, who he said does not appear to live in the neighborhood.

Aiming for something between a quip and an optimistic spin, this reporter offered a hope that the pilferer had, at the very least, enjoyed the snack.

Pittman replied, deadly serious: I know they did.”
