Yale Job Postings To Be Paused For Tech Upgrade

Yale won’t be posting any new job openings between May 23 and June 30 — due to a long-planned shift to a new electronic hiring platform, according to university leaders.

New positions at the university will not be posted during that five-week period because the university is moving from its current job application platform STARS to a new online system called Yale Talent Network.

The pause in posting new listings is not the same as a pause in hiring. According to an internal memo, the university’s talent and acquisition team will continue hiring for existing job postings during this time.

We continue to work on filling roles that are currently posted, and we anticipate posting the new jobs after July 1, 2025,” wrote university spokesperson Karen Peart.

The five-week pause in posting new positions comes at a time when universities across the country have announced hiring freezes amid funding cuts from the Trump administration.

Peart was asked whether federal funding cuts, either already announced or anticipated, played a role in the pause.

She responded, This specific action was based on the cutover to a new technology solution that replaces a legacy platform that has been in place for over 20 years.”

At the same time, we are monitoring the status of federal funding for research and the possibility of a significant increase in the endowment tax very closely,” she continued. At this current moment, no university-wide hiring freezes are in place.”

The memo indicated that new positions approved in Yale’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year would not be posted until July 1.

When asked why those opportunities would not be posted prior to the platform shift’s start on May 23, Peart responded, The number of new positions approved in the FY 2026 budget was lower when compared to last few years. Given the limited number of new jobs, it was prudent to simplify and focus on the technology cutover.”
