Maritime Economy Boosted

Land used to store construction materials for the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge will now be put to use expanding the city’s port economy.

The Connecticut Port Authority announced Wednesday that it will purchase the land near the harbor with the help of $751,000 which the State Bond Commission voted last week to contribute to the project. The authority will use the land to expand its partnership with the Port of New Haven.

The land includes parcels on Waterfront, Alabama and Stiles streets.

This purchase is fully consistent with our mission to improve and expand Connecticut’s maritime economy,” a release quoted Connecticut Port Authority Chairman Scott Bates saying. We intend to work closely with our partners at the Port of New Haven to make sure this property is used wisely in the years ahead as we work together to expand capacity in New Haven.”
