Suspected Bank Robbers’ Car Ditched In Hill

A citizen flagged down a cop in the Hill Wednesday afternoon — and led police to what they believe is the getaway car from a bank robbery.

The bank robbery occurred a bit before 1 p.m. at the TD Bank branch on Amity Road in Woodbridge. The two robbers were believed to have escaped in a tan Buick.

About an hour later someone saw a tan Buick zoom around the Hill, according to New Haven chief of detectives Lt. Al Vazquez. The driver pulled into the parking lot of C‑Town supermarket in Kimberly Square. Two men jumped out, threw a bag into a Dumpster, then fled.

The witness flagged down New Haven Officer Reginald Holston. Holston called in detectives, who determined that was the suspects’ car. State and Woodbridge cops arrived on what became a crime scene. Two nearby schools, New Horizons and Betsy Ross, went into lockdown until some time after 2.

As of 3:50 p.m. the suspects had not been located, Vazquez said. The search continued.
