Suspected Bank Robbers’ Car Ditched In Hill

A citizen flagged down a cop in the Hill Wednesday afternoon—and led police to what they believe is the getaway car from a bank robbery.

The bank robbery occurred a bit before 1 p.m. at the TD Bank branch on Amity Road in Woodbridge. The two robbers were believed to have escaped in a tan Buick.

About an hour later someone saw a tan Buick zoom around the Hill, according to New Haven chief of detectives Lt. Al Vazquez. The driver pulled into the parking lot of C-Town supermarket in Kimberly Square. Two men jumped out, threw a bag into a Dumpster, then fled.

The witness flagged down New Haven Officer Reginald Holston. Holston called in detectives, who determined that was the suspects’ car. State and Woodbridge cops arrived on what became a crime scene. Two nearby schools, New Horizons and Betsy Ross, went into lockdown until some time after 2.

As of 3:50 p.m. the suspects had not been located, Vazquez said. The search continued.
