Activists Back Caravan

Immigrant-rights advocates from New Haven and beyond are working to build public support for the caravan of asylum seekers traveling from Honduras to the U.S. border seeking to enter the country.

They held an action in Washington Monday night claiming” the walls of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to remind Trump and Congress that we a nation of immigrants,” in the words of organizer Kica Matos of New Haven (pictured) of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement.

The group released this video of the action made by Frank Chi..

Matos told the crowd Monday night that protesters sought to remind people” that caravan members are human beings who are escaping really terrible conditions. They deserve human dignity” and compassion.” as well as the right to apply for asylum, she said.

The group is also asking people to post images like the one above on their front doors or in their windows.
