A statewide early education group has recognized the great things that have been happening for pre-schoolers for years on Wall Street.

The group, the Connecticut Association for the Education of Young Children,” presented its 2019 Early Childhood Exceptional Professional Award this weekend to Sandra Malmquist (at right in photo), the director of the CT Children’s Building, which includes the Creating Kids child care center and the CT Children’s Museum.

The award is given each year to an extraordinary early childhood leader who understands and demonstrates the CTAEYC’s mission and is compelling in
influential ways. The leader must demonstrate commitment to the profession through advocacy efforts, effective leadership, and continuing their own professional development,” in the organization’s words.

Under Malmquist’s direction, the Wall Street center (between State and Orange Streets) has added an Early Childhood Resource Center with weekly workshops and a Week of the Young Child annual Little Read,” among other programs.

In introducing Malmquist at the award presentation, New Haven School Readiness Project Director Denise Duclos praised her rare combination of vision, attention to detail in every aspect of implementation” and infectious joy that excites and invites all to join in.”

It takes a village to teach those little messengers the messages that will shape their best life now and forever,” Malmquist said in accepting the award.
