Fake Tin Can” Held Ounce Of Weed

East Shore cops conducted 58 motor vehicle stops in a week — and caught an erratic moped driver and a woman who allegedly fled the scene of a Valentine’s Day crash.

Those are among the highlights from the latest round-up of police incidents in Quinnipiac Meadows and the East Shore, as written up by the district’s top cop, Lt. Jason Rentkowitz.

His write-up follows:

FROM 2 – 11-19 TO 2 – 17-19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 272 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE EAST SHORE AND QUINNIPIAC SECTION OF NEW HAVEN. THE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

Monday morning, a Melrose Dr resident reported $1000 cash was taken from her unlocked vehicle overnight.

Monday evening, a Russel St resident noticed someone dropping off a dog in the woods and then driving away. Worried that the dog was abandoned, the good citizen retrieved the dog and phoned the police. Officers responded and transported the dog to the animal shelter.

Tuesday night, officers encountered two persons walking in the middle of traffic on Quinnipiac Ave near Townsend Ave. While addressing the pedestrian violation, the officer noticed a fake tin can” which concealed approximately one ounce of marijuana.

Police received a burglar alarm activation at the Foxon Blvd T‑Mobile around midnight on the 13th. The officers viewed surveillance footage showing two unknown men forcing open the door and checking out the display area. They fled empty handed.

Wednesday morning, a Lenox St resident noticed his vehicle, which was parked on the road overnight, was tampered with. The window was shattered, and the steering column was damaged in an apparent failed theft attempt.

Later Wednesday evening, officers observed a moped operating erratically on Quinnipiac Ave near Glen Haven Rd. Once the lights and siren were activated, the operator attempted to bail off the vehicle and run but was quickly apprehended. He was cited for the motor vehicle violations as well as marijuana possession.

A couple traveling on Foxon Blvd Valentine’s Day evening was struck by a car trying to pass them. The woman driving the other car shouted some profanity and tried to provoke a fight prior to fleeing the scene. Officers tracked her down and charged her with evading the scene of an accident.

Sunday afternoon, a vehicle left running in the Popeye’s parking lot on Rt 80 was stolen. It was recovered by police shorty after nearby. *PRO TIP: Never leave a car running unattended, even for a minute.

Throughout the week, officers conducted 58 motor vehicle stops concentrating on Foxon Blvd, Quinnipiac Ave, and Forbes Ave.
