Clifford Beers and Farnam Neighborhood House have helped families navigate life in different ways for more than a century. Now they will do so as one united nonprofit agency.
The two organizations announced Thursday that Farnam is becoming part of Clifford Beers.
Clifford Beers, founded in 1913, has a national reputation for the mental and behavioral health help it offers to kids experiencing trauma and families in chaos.
Farnam House, located in New Haven and 112 years old, is known for its basketball leagues, summer camp, food and tutoring programs, and general role as the Fair Haven place to hang out and grow up in positive ways.
In recent years, Farnam has struggled internally. The new arrangement will enable Farnam’s camp in Durham to reopen, programs to expand, and Farnam families to access to Clifford Beers’ therapy, childhood nutrition, and domestic violence programs, among others, according to a press release.
“Joining Clifford Beers will enable us to help even more children and families in New Haven,” Farnam Executive Director Jamell Cotto states in the release. “So many of our children and families struggle with immigration issues, incarcerated family members, gun violence, domestic violence, or child abuse and neglect. This partnership puts Farnam on the conduit for the next hundred years.”
The abundance of remedial social services in New Haven is needed because of the chronic discrimination against so many residents and the damage done to them.
The huge imbalance of wealthy and poor has to be addressed and remedied.
