Fasano Seeks Forensic Audit

How about auditing Fasano as well? Would you buy a used car from this guy?

Sen. Fasano loves to tout his office in the city, but he hasn't kept up the property and it looks blighted. Check it out at 388 Orange St.

We need to address the elephant in the room: Inner-Ring suburbs have never paid their fair share for city resources.

FASANO himself has an office in New Haven because it's obviously more profitable to do business here. Still, he sleeps in North Haven, owns a tennis club in East Haven, and he consistently advocates for suburban interests over those of the city. He's a hypocrite and a LEECH.

Why wouldn't the state audit this catastrophe? I don't know much about Fasano's motivation and I don't care in this case. Someone has to stand up to our mayor, it certainly isn't going to be our alder persons.

Fasano is correct, after the budget debate between harp and Senator Looney of New Haven, it became clear that an audit, and not the one paid for by the city: RSM US, LLP, Certified Public Accountants, have issued an unmodified ("clean") opinion on the City of New Haven's financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2017. is wholly in order. The city is more than (1,657,855,761) in debt and every close out budget pushes that total higher. You never hear Harp talk about debt, and the BOA is totally out of this question.

Note 19. Tax Abatements
The City adopted new accounting guidance, GASB Statement No. 77, Tax Abatement Disclosures,
effective for the year ended June 30, 2017. The new disclosure is presented below:
The City seeks to encourage the fullest use of real property located in the City. To encourage the
rehabilitation of existing residential and commercial building stock and to encourage the construction of
new structures the City of New Haven has established two assessment deferral programs which defer a
portion of the property taxes on improvements for property owners engaging in the rehabilitation or
construction of certain eligible properties.
The City Wide Assessment Deferral Program - When a property is rehabilitated or improved by new
construction, the assessed value may increase because of the investments made in the property. In some
cases this may deter investment. In order to encourage the fullest development of property and to
encourage investment in New Haven's existing commercial and residential building stock, the City Wide
Assessment Deferral Program freezes the property tax assessments on certain eligible properties at preconstruction
or pre-rehabilitation values and then phases in the taxes assessed on the improvements
over a period of five years

Eastshore, my friend Len (we worked together at the legislature) is doing this for partisan reasons. In less than three weeks, he will be either president pro tem of the Senate (the most powerful member of the chamber) or go back to being minority leader. But that does not make an audit a bad idea.

HewNaven, a number of inner ring suburbs, such as West Haven. are facing fiscal problems similar to those New Haven faces. And Hamden's tax rate is comparable to New Haven's. I think the argument you are making applies more to more distant, richer suburbs.

Who does this guy think he is?

I would agree with Fasano if he were to apply this standard to all municipalities statewide that experienced discrepancies with their finances. But he doesn't.

However, since he's trying to garner attention to himself, the city should apply the same audit he's embarking on, to his business in New Haven.

The mayor cannot be blamed for the frailties of others. Heck, we elected an alleged thief that sits in the White House. Where's the brouhaha from Fasano over that one?

Hang in there Lenny! Between you and Mario Boone (WTNH), MAYBE we can DRAIN THE SWAMP in New Haven once and for all and STOP this reckless spending of taxpayer money from a woman who has NO clue what she's doing UNLESS it's written down for her. Ask her a question off the cuff and you'l get an answer that has NOTHING to do with reality!

The mayor needs to learn she is a public servant. We pay her salary she does not pay ours and if she is on the up and up she should not ever have an issue with an independent audit. We deserve to have checks and balances in place including periodically changing the auditing firm. She seems to want to micro-manage every departments spending yet she doesn't want to be scrutinized. Something fishy here.
