Hamden Cop Appeals Discipline

Hamden PD.

Officer Andrew Lipford.

Hamden police Officer Andrew Lipford, who was the subject of a department investigation this spring after he threatened to shoot a Latino man at a traffic stop, has appealed a disciplinary sentence imposed by Acting Chief John Cappiello.

The Hamden Police Commission will hold a hearing on Dec. 4 to determine whether to uphold Cappiello’s disciplinary sentence.

In February, WTNH’s Mario Boone released footage of a traffic stop that showed Lipford, and Sergeant Micahel Sigmon, at a traffic stop. Lipford told the man in the car, who did not speak English, that if you do something that you’re not told you’re gonna get shot.” Sigmon threatened to call ICE. Sigmon has accepted his disciplinary sentence, which was a verbal reprimand, according to WTNH. Lipford’s disciplinary sentence has not been released because of his appeal.
