Covid-Cautious, Church Services Resume

It took 12 weeks to go from 200,000 COVID deaths to 300,000 COVID deaths.

But just 5 weeks to go from 300,000 to 400,000.

Everyone is jumping the gun and sending the wrong signals. Until we get everyone over age 50 or so vaccinated, the message should be to hunker down.

The deaths that occur over the next several months are going to be a national tragedy. If we've made it this far, what's wrong with waiting a little longer?

I commend this church for carefully following safety measures to keep it's congregation safe. But, I'm confused by the in person support of the Mayor. When the Governor wouldn't agree to his request to close down in person dining at restaurants, hair salons and gyms, Mayor Elicker personally issued a call to action to New Haven residents, asking them to not go inside any of these places. Or, other inside activities. But then days later told residents to "shop local" so, indoors. That statement ( a true misstep with far reaching implications for all of these New Haven businesses and employees and another term in office, should he choose to pursue it. Missteps happen. Not addressing it and taking ownership to lessen the damage, is a weaker choice ) killed their business immediately despite valiant attempts and huge cash layouts of businesses to also keep their customers and staff safe and follow all guidelines. There is not one New Haven business who doesn't date the immediate huge loss of support and some having to closedown, to the day after the Mayor's statement. And when the shutdown call was issued from the Governor , it was handled professionally, giving businesses notice so they stopped inventory orders. The Mayor's attempt stranded them with food and supply inventory without warning. And has skewed public perception permanently of the safely of some indoor activities vs. others.
In this instance, there is a separation of church and state I hope? And who determines what indoor activities lift people's spirits and are community orientated and if a congregation or customers are more likely to disregard guidelines or less likely to enforce safety for a congregation or customers.

Additionally, the mayor sees an opportunity to get his face out there as if he's been instrumental in the church's aim. His definition of helping the Black & Hispanic community's are to just show up and pat them on the back. Thankfully, the leadership in the Hispanic community are far from allowing Elicker's Machiavellian tactics to take hold.

Nevertheless, I commend Pastor Hector Otero for his leadership in the community and selling a car to a much appreciative and deserving congregant for $50.

The church started its in-person church services back up in November after developing a Covid-safe plan. Seating is placed six feet apart indoors. Masks are required. Church staff remain at each entrance and exit to sanitize visitors upon entry. Visitors enter through the side entrance and exit out the front of the building. The worship room is ventilated and disinfected after each service.

Keep drinking this Kool-Aid.So body will catch Covid in this church.

Where was One City Henry? Rumor OCH Fernandez, tamer of troubled youth, grand master of grant writing, maybe headed to the new administration. New Haven will weep if that day were to come to pass - One City Henry would not have let a church move out of NH. Hamden is close, but it ain't New Haven.
