Homicide Victim ID’d

Police block off area Monday near where body was discovered.

Police have identified the man whose body was found Monday near the Mill River, and they have labeled his death a homicide.

His name was Angel Luis Rodriguez. He was 21 years old. He lived in New Haven.

A jogger discovered his body near the river by Farnum Drive and Orange Street around 7 a.m. Monday.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call detectives at (203) 946‑6304. Information may be provided anonymously.

Rodriguez’s is the seventh homicide in New Haven already in 2021.

Last month, Alfreda Youmans, 50, and Jeffrey Dotson, 42, were found dead by the police inside a Winthrop Avenue apartment, Jorge Osorio-Caballero, 32, was shot and killed in Fair Haven, Marquis Winfrey, 31, was shot and killed in Newhallville, and Joseph Vincent Mattei, 28, was shot and killed in the Hill. Someone shot Kevin Jiang, 26, to death in Goatville on Feb. 6.

The Board of Alders Public Safety Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing online at 6 p.m. Thursday to discuss the spike in crime. Details can be found here.
