Law Student Killed At Intersection Where 2 Others Have Died

(Updated)Keonho Lim, a 25-year-old Yale law student from Medford, Mass., died Tuesday afternoon after a truck hit him near Yale New Haven Hospital.

The crash occurred around 4 p.m. at the treacherous intersection of South Frontage Road and York Street.

Update: Police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff offered more details in a follow-up release: Lim was riding a bicycle north on York Street in the far-right right-turn-only lane. He continued riding straight through the intersection.

A 35-year-old New Haven man, meanwhile, was driving northbound in the center lane on York. This is both a straight and a right-turn lane.

The driver turned right onto South Frontage. Lim collided with the truck’s passenger side.

Prior to arrival of New Haven emergency responders, a passing North Branford Fire Department ambulance and a passing American Medical Response supervisor stopped to render aid,” New Haven police spokesman Capt. Duff reported in a release.

The student was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The truck driver remained on the scene.

The crash occurred at the same intersection where a medical student named Mila Rainof was killed in 2008 and a 42-year-old pedestrian named Melinda Trancredi was killed in 2017.

Police were just beginning to investigate this latest crash early Monday evening and did not disclose more details.

The crash followed another a day earlier involving a 27-year-old Hamden man, who is in critical condition after stepping into the road and getting hit by a car.

The crash involving the 27-year-old Hamden man occurred at Foxon Boulevard and Quinnipiac Avenue Monday around 8:30 p.m.

Investigators believe, prior to the accident, the pedestrian stood on the sidewalk on the north side of Foxon Boulevard. A 61-year-old Meriden woman operating an Infiniti G37 traveled westbound on Foxon Boulevard,” police spokesman Capt. Duff wrote in a release.

As the Infiniti operator and traffic approached the Quinnipiac Avenue intersection, the pedestrian walked into the roadway. After the collision, the Infiniti traveled through the intersection and came to a stop. The Infiniti operator remained on scene and was not injured.”

The pedestrian is currently in the hospital battling life-threatening head trauma and internal injuries,” Duff wrote.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old New Haven motorcyclist is also in the hospital in critical condition as a result of a separate crash that occurred on East Grand Avenue between Lenox Street and Lexington Avenue Saturday around 2:30 p.m.

A 67-year-old East Haven woman was driving a Chevy Cavalier westbound when the motorcyclist was also traveling westbound — but he was traveling in the eastbound lane, according to Duff.

Not far from the intersection of Lenox Street, the Chevy operator began a left turn to enter a driveway. The passing motorcycle struck the driver side of the Chevy. The motorcyclist was ejected upon impact and landed on a sidewalk,” Duff wrote in a release.

Emergency medical responders treated the motorcyclist and the Chevy operator at the scene. Ambulances transported both crash victims to the hospital. The Chevy operator suffered minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.”

The motorcyclist, on the other hand, is battling life-threatening injuries.

The police department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating both incidents. Duff asked anyone with information to contact the police at 203 – 946-6316.
