Another Driver Kills Another Pedestrian

(Update) Forty-four year-old Gilberto Molina of New Haven died Tuesday from injuries suffered when a hit-and-run driver hit him the night before.

Police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff reported in a Tuesday afternoon press release that officers responded Monday at around 8:07 p.m. to 911 calls of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Columbus Avenue near West Street in the Hill neighborhood.

Duff said that arriving emergency responders found a seriously injured male lying in the roadway.” He said that officers learned that the operator of the motor vehicle had fled the scene following the crash.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital. He was pronounced dead the next day.

The NHPD Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203 – 946-6304. Callers may remain anonymous.

This is the third pedestrian death already this year resulting from a collision with a driver.

One of the deaths resulted from a crash on Whalley Avenue, thed other on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard. Just as ine Monday’s incident, both fatal crashes occurred after sundown.

Safe streets advocates from throughout the city have been pressuring city officials this year to prioritize installing new street lighting, adding more speed humps, and upping traffic law enforcement in response to last year’s spike in pedestrian fatalities.

19-Year-Old Shot In Dwight

In a press release sent out earlier Tuesday morning, Duff said that officers responded to Yale New Haven Hospital’s St. Raphael’s campus Monday at 10:17 p.m. to investigate the report of a walk-in gunshot victim.

Officers identified the victim as a 19-year-old New Haven man. Duff said that physicians indicated that his injuries were non-life threatening.”

Police later located a crime scene in the area of Chapel Street and Kensington Street.
