Old article says construction hadn't begun yet. Now it will. That this is a priority for the mayor over many years and a ton of lobbying the state and raising money IS GOOD. This is what she represents.

How is the community going to sustain the Q house? I saw something on CTV where they are trying to get the funds and are asking the community for help.With a 11% tike Hike.I just do not see how.But Good luck.I hope they can.

Do not drink the kool-Aid Yet.The community Still got to get the Three Million to run it and you just can not do it with the ssale of bricks.

The old article says construction will start in Spring of 2018, and take 12-18 months to complete.

Here we are 12-18 months later. Lather, rinse, repeat.

How convenient. And there remains no plans on how to fund operations or pay for on-going maintenance. Why is New Haven paying for this boondoggle? Oh right...politics.

Almost as predicted. The city is a festival of miracles! A festivus for the rest of us!It is amazing how the slack is jerked out of City Hall in an election year!
This is why real political competition is good for the city, good for the people. Long delayed action appears to be suddenly expedited by the Harp administration.
We've had roads paved all over town. Even some that didn't need paving! Trees trimmed and long dead ones cut down. Contracts for police after three year delay. And now work will begin on the Q House right before the primary, after two groundbreaking ceremonies!
The other prediction was an announcement that work will begin on the Escape that has escaped us for so long!
Since we a living in magical times, the public would like to see the mayor keep her vows, and pull all the names of the missing mystery donors to her campaigns from 2017 and 2019 out of her hat.
That will be another impressive trick which will fulfill required state mandated campaign funding laws.

Alder Morrison and Jackie Bracey deserve the credit for this more than anyone. Sustainability is the question mark. In a city of competing priorities is this project and another charter school as important as a fully funded school system with competent leadership? We have school buildings with athletic fields and pools. They could easily be neighborhood centers after school and in the summer. We now have another building that will not be taxed thus putting more burden on property owners to subsidize those who pay no taxes. Short term feel good solutions often are not the answer. The good old days are not coming back. I loved the Que but these are different times that call for different solutions, Since much of the money has Escaped, we will scramble to add more costs to shrinking local revenues.

From what I was told by some people.They said if this Q house opens,The city has to get funding for it each year.They told me funding was the problem and why the Q house closed.I think down the road the same thing will happen.But due to the fact that the gentrification is starting to move in this area.That building will be Prime Real Estate along with Dixwell Plaza Yale will pick it up the Q house and the gentrification vampires will pick up Dixwell Plaza .

Trust me I have seen this plan.

3/5's: The $3 million is supposed to be an endowment, but that amount will not come close to generating the income the Q House will need. Meanwhile, both the city is running perpetual deficits and the state has huge unfunded liabilities to pst and present employees, teachers, and has a huge bonded debt, all while higher income people are leaving the state.

I posted about this multiple times earlier in the year.

I even suggested we setup a game to predict what day will the Harp photo op come out with her and the Q house construction. Same as last election. Photo op with promises, then nothing actually gets done... until the next election. More photo ops.

How in the world can people continue to be such suckers for this? The same project. The same location. The same photo ops. Hilarious and shameful and sad all at the same time.

Today,the city announced just before the primary of Sept.10. 2019. Three years and 8 months after receipt of construction monies. Alder Morrison thank you for keeping the the pressure for a timely construction plan.

Did I say Timely? Zinn estimated the job will take 18 months.

I am not a hater.That is why I wrote How is the community going to sustain the Q house? I saw something on CTV where they are trying to get the funds and are asking the community for help.With a 11% tike Hike.I just do not see how.But Good luck.I hope they can.And that is a good question everyone should be asking.Also just because it is a binding contract.it does not mean anything.The mall call the Haven in West Haven has a Binding contract and it has been four years has not started.

There is no money in New Haven to sustain a "new and improved" Q House, so it will be a matter of short time before the call comes out for "the community to rescue the Q". At most, I give it three years after it reopens. Look at how much existing nonprofits are struggling already. So now we're going to add a new staff for the Q House? Where will the money come from? The state: fat chance. The City: you're delusional. Community Foundation: maybe for a 3 year grant. Yale: doubt it. Corporations: we don't have any that support nonprofits in a meaningful way. Did I miss anyone?

Lastly, I sure hope the operating expenses of the building will be paid for entirely by the tenants, otherwise, the buildings maintenance costs will bring down the Q House yet again.
