White Collar vs. Red Gloves

Lamont in the conference room; Ganim in the ring.

The candidates for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination released new commercials Monday, one filmed in the ring, the other in the conference room.

To call them a contrast in, well, punch for the dollar, would be an understatement.

Energy wise, imagine Rocky Meets My Dinner With Andre.

Below is challenger Joe Ganim’s commercial, called Fighter.” Produced by Marlin Strategies and Castle Gate Media, it is filmed in a busy boxing gym, where he skips rope, lands a few punches, while promising to fight for hard-working families,” create jobs, knock out the state’s fiscal mess, and build an economy that works for everyone”:

Below is party-endorsed candidate Ned Lamont’s commercial. Called Learn,” it shows Lamont sitting amid empty seats in what appears to be a corporate boardroom or meeting room. (In a previous ad, Lamont sat in a car.) Citing GE’s departure from Connecticut, he says in the latest ad, which was produced by Putnam Partners: If you don’t learn from your mistakes … well, you know the rest of the story.” Then the ad ends.

Actually, he does describe feeling a punch to the gut” when GE left.
