Six elementary schools found out about new principals over the weekend, in a district-wide reshuffling that’s putting administrators closer to classrooms.
Yolanda Jones-Generette, an administrator overseeing support services and early childhood education, will be the new principal at West Rock Authors Academy. That school’s current principal, Rosalyn Bannon, is being bumped to Barnard Magnet School (where Belinda Carberry retired).
Dina Natalino, Wilbur Cross High’s assistant principal, will be the new principal at Bishop Woods Academy. That school’s current principal, Rosalind Garcia, is transferring to Lincoln Basset School (after Janet Clayton-Brown left for a top job as assistant superintendent in Bridgeport).
Sabrina Breland, an administrator on special assignment at James Hillhouse High School, will be the new principal at East Rock Magnet School (where Margaret Pelley retired). Laura Roblee, principal at the now-shuttered Creed High School, will serve at Brennan-Rogers Magnet School (where Gail Deblasio retired).
Those staffing decisions are scheduled to come before the full Board of Education for a vote tonight.
Even with those changes approved, there’s still a couple more administrative spots that need to be filled.
No one has been selected to take over at Metropolitan Business Academy after Judith Puglisi put in for retirement. No one has officially been announced to lead the Riverside Opportunity High School, though it’s presumed that Larry Conaway will stay on; New Horizon’s Maureen Bransfield left to direct New London’s arts magnet school.
This is being done without good judgement. While I do not have issues with any of the administrators, there are bigger questions unanswered. The district is interviewing candidates for the following positions:
At the same time, Iline Tracey, Abie Benitez, Gil Traverso, Mike Crocco, Carmen Rodriguez, and Pedro Mendia are all Central Office Admins in need of placement because their jobs are eliminated. Why weren't any of these people placed as principals. And where will Kermit be working?
And the multi-million dollar question is how can the Board approve administrative placements BEFORE they've approved the Superintendent's Table of Organization for Central Office...or has that been approved in executive session? Anyway, there are too many unanswered questions that should be answered before these positions are approved.
