Stolen Truck Found — On Fire, In Brooklyn

Not the same vehicle in question.

A Foxon Hill Road resident’s pickup truck was stolen from his driveway. The car was later located in Brooklyn, New York.

There was one small problem. The car was on fire.

That is one of the highlights from latest round-up of police incidents in Quinnipiac Meadows and the East Shore, as written up by the district’s top cop, Lt. Jason Rentkowitz.

His write-up follows:

FROM 1 – 28-19 TO 2 – 3‑19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 209 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE EAST SHORE AND QUINNIPIAC SECTION OF NEW HAVEN. THE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

Monday morning, a Foxon Hill Rd resident woke up to find his pickup truck stolen from the driveway. The vehicle was later located, on fire, in Brooklyn Ny.

Monday afternoon, a drive-by shooter fired two shots into a Scott Ridge apartment on Eastern St prior to fleeing the area. No one was injured. That incident is under investigation.

A motorist fled the scene of a crash on Foxon Blvd near Quinnipiac Ave Tuesday evening. Luckily, the other driver obtained the offender’s license plate. The officers were able to locate the vehicle where they observed fresh, consistent damage. That driver was arrested.

At 11:00 pm Wednesday, an officer encountered a dog outside on Sherland Ave appearing to be in distress from the single digit weather. The officer made contact with the owner and demanded he bring the dog inside.

Friday afternoon, an operator of a moped, traveling down Lexington Ave, crashed into the rear of a parked oil truck. He was pronounced deceased shortly after the collision.

The department’s Accident Reconstruction Team responded and is handling the investigation.

Officers on patrol Sunday noticed a stolen Subaru Forester in operation on Portland St.

They stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver. The 22-year-old New Haven man was also charged for the cocaine and marijuana he had in his possession.
