The most recent episodes on WNHH revisit the city’s punk and new wave scenes, advocate getting out the vote, protest police brutality and critique New Haven’s last chief of police, meet some new people in charge, and light a few birthday candles for one of the state’s leaders in mental health. 

On Deep Focus,” host Tom Breen dives into It Happened, But Nobody Noticed, a 2009 documentary from directors Jerry Lombardo and Eric Michael Schrader that documents New Haven’s punk and New Wave underground music scene from 1978 to 1988. Using the film as a jumping off point, Breen talks Lombardo and Schrader about how this movie came to be; some of the bands, venues and unique personalities that made up New Haven’s punk and New Wave scene in the 80s; and the ways that movies and music can intersect to help us understand this specific time and place in our city’s underground cultural history. On Grounded,” hosts Chris Stedman and Ony Obiocha talk to Patrick Comerford, community organizer and advocate for queer youth at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE), about how he chose to get involved in politics and the advocacy work he does. On Kica’s Corner,” host Kica Matos welcomes community activist Barbara Fair and lawyer Patricia Kane, who supported Corey Menafee earlier this year, to speak about two events happening on Friday, October 26 a rally at 3pm hosted by the Change the Name Coalition demanding that Yale rename Calhoun College, and a protest against police brutality outside of the New Haven Police Department at 5pm. During the show, the reasons for renaming Calhoun College are discussed, as is the case of Fair’s daughter Holly Tucker, who was stopped and allegedly assaulted by the police on September 10 of this year.
