Top West Side Cop Promoted

Lt. Rose Dell is headed back to 1 Union Ave after a year building relationships with neighbors to tackle crime on the city’s west side.

Dell is training a successor, Lt. Elliot Rosa, before taking a new post at police headquarters starting Jan. 5.

In the new post she will serve as a department head: Officer-in-charge of the records division. In that role she will supervise the records room, head up the property room, handle body camera video footage, and oversee the animal shelter. She will also continue to supervise investigations by the traffic reconstruction team.

“It’s bittersweet,” Dell said of leaving her post as district manager for the West Hills/ Westville/ West Rock/ Amity / BeverlyHills neighborhoods. Since assuming that post in October 2018, she has built strong relationships with neighbors concerned about increases in property theft and general crime in the neighborhood. She has also produced a detailed weekly written summary that keeps neighbors up to date on all major crime incidents.

“I’m really going to miss the community and the relationships I made,” she said.

Lt. Robert Maturo, whom Dell is replacing in the records division, is moving on to run the police academy, in a position that was vacant.

The move necessitated finding the right person to oversee the records, body cam, property, and animal shelter divisions while also helping police brass plan for how to deal with new technologies, said Assistant Chief Renee Dominguez.

“It’s a big department that needs to be overseen. She has a great skill set to be running that,” Dominguez said of Dell. ​“She’s doing a great job in Westville as district manager. We have to use the resources we have to make sure we’re the most successful.”
