The Keys Were In Plain Sight

Three times in six days, drivers on the west side of town left keys inside their vehicles. All three vehicles were stolen.

So reports top west side cop Lt. Rose Dell in her latest weekly incident round-up. She also reports that another porch priate” is on the prowl.

Her report follows:

FROM 11/24/19 to 11/30/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 137 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

Overnight on 11/24, a resident of Rock Creek Road reported that her 2002 Honda Accord was stolen. The keys were left inside the vehicle. A Mazda CX‑9 with an attached U‑Haul trailer was stolen from the 900 block of Whalley Avenue on 11/26. The owner accidentally left his keys in the vehicle. The trailer was located a few hours later at the intersection of Wellington Road and Diamond Street. A detective found the vehicle the next day on Goodrich Street. On 11/29, a city resident pulled in front of the House of Chao to pick up her to go order. She left her 2009 Subaru Tribeca running with the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked. Her vehicle was stolen while she was in the restaurant.

On 11/26, a resident of South Genesee Street reported that sometime overnight the title to her vehicle was stolen out of her Nissan Pathfinder’s glove box. A resident of Lodge Street reported that on 11/30, the driver’s side window to her vehicle was smashed and her wallet was stolen.

A resident of Springside Avenue reviewed his home surveillance cameras and saw an unknown male attempt to open his front door on 11/26. The male did not make entry. He was a black male, around 5’10”, wearing maroon sweatpants and a dark colored jacket with blue and white sneakers.

Another porch pirate is on the prowl. A resident of Anthony Street received a notification that a package was delivered on Wednesday. The resident returned home, and found the package was missing. He checked his security camera and observed a black male, wearing a black leather jacket, black hooded sweatshirt, faded blue jeans and black and white Jordan sneakers snatch the package off the front porch and then take off down his neighbor’s driveway.

Thanksgiving morning a resident of Kenter Place found three bicycles had been stolen from the garage. The garage had been left open overnight.

A resident of Lodge Street reported a burglary on 11/30. The burglars had removed an air conditioner to gain access to the rear of the residence. A flat screen television, a PlayStation, a Google Chromebook and various PlayStation games were stolen. Detectives responded to the process the home for fingerprints and DNA.
