Sadly, the folks here could do more to protect their patients and employees, but they don't. Clinicians are not tested. (In contrast to the University's 2x/week testing of its students.) A positive test would now mean two weeks workers' compensation for the employee. Clinicians who do test positive are returned to work without first testing negative. Patients who come in contact with infected clinicians are not informed, and it is hospital policy not to inform patients as to the CoVid status of those who have or are treating them. As far as masks, they most clinicians are rationed to one per week, and the face shields offer little to no protection, or may increase risk, when clinicians are bending over patients. Balcezak's staff is tired of his policies that needlessly endanger staff and patients.

@CityYankee, live in fear. How many CT schools went hybrid? Wasn't New Haven the only one not to do some hybrid? The overwhelming majority of cities/towns in the state share the same incidence rate per 100,000 people the past two weeks. The correlation between hybrid schooling and incidence rate is not strong.

The data shows that outbreaks are largely limited to the eastern part of the state. Instead of being in a state of panic, let's use that data and turn it into useful information to combat the virus spread.

With that [i]weekly[/i] rate of growth, compounded, how much longer until New Haven County qualifies as an "outbreak" area in your professional opinion, Mike?

@ethanjrt, you should probably read the whole article. My prior statement that you reproduced was not my sole opinion; it was printed under the data graphic in the article!

I drew my own conclusions from the data map presented in the article regarding correlation between opening schools for hybrid learning and remaining virtual. You created a position for me in an attempt to discredit my observation based on the provided data set. Did I define weekly outbreak or state anything regarding weekly growth rate in our county? I did not.

The data suggests that the majority of regions across the state share the same low level of incidence rate these past 2 weeks. I did not make this up; it is literally the lowest level as defined by the data's legend. If the proposed second wave is coming as the weather cools, that further supports people's position that New Haven schools should have gone hybrid before this time when they had the chance to do so.

As of 10/8, New Haven County and Hartford County (similar municipal make-up) share virtually the same number of cases. This again demonstrates weak correlation between hybrid schooling and "outbreaks", which was the crux of my prior comment. This similarity in cases remained before and after the school year started which further supports the position. As New Haven did not open schools for hybrid sessions and represents the most populous and dense municipality in the county, this suggests the prior concerns regarding hybrid schooling at the beginning of the year were not warranted as incidence rates remained similar to a somewhat comparable county (Hartford).

I'm open to debate regarding the data and that assertion, but putting words in other people's mouths shouldn't be a go-to method of conveying thoughts.

Mike, you clearly have many thoughts about how things are going in New London, how school openings might be affecting case counts, etc. But the answer to my question is unaffected by any of those things, and it remains unanswered so I'll ask again: [b]In your opinion, with a compounding weekly case count growth rate of 20%, how long until a given area (in this case, New Haven) achieves "outbreak" status?[/b]

Answer this question, and you answer how long you expect outbreaks to remain "limited" to the eastern part of the state. Unless of course you think that the weekly rate of increase will slow or turn around, in which case I'd be interested in your basis for thinking that.

P.S. This is now the second time I've had this very odd experience with you where you go off about how I "created a position for" you and am "putting words in other people's mouths," when all I've done is literally [i]quoted you and addressed what you had to say[/i]. I think you should stop doing that, because it's not a good look. You can't dodge questions about one of your statements by saying, "Well, I said other things too..."

(I mean... you can. It's the internet. You can do whatever you want. But it doesn't really make sense.)

I stated that the comment you quoted me on was lifted almost directly from the article, yet you insist on trying to turn that into some kind of position that I need to defend. You can't hang on one statement from the article and simultaneously ignore another statement from the same article. It's the same data set...

I am referring to hybrid school sessions PRIOR to the data results presented in this article. Stop trying to turn that sentiment into a position regarding "how long [I] expect outbreaks to remain limited to the eastern part of the state." If the state has been operating under the covid status quo and a particular region is experiencing an "outbreak" while the others are not, it would be helpful to try and isolate potential reasons for that in order to try and limit the occurrence of such outbreaks in regions not currently experiencing it. I'm not sure how quoting a sentence of mine out of context (the context for your quoted sentence comes from the following sentence in my original comment) is helpful to the discussion regarding covid concerns in our state.
