Dr. Harold S. Ince, 88

Dr. Harold S. Ince, 88, passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

He was the loving and devoted husband of the late MaryAnn Jackson Ince.

Dr. Ince was born in Hempstead, N.Y. on Jan. 7,1930, to the late Frederick Sr. and Carmen (Sealy) Ince. He attended Howard University where he obtained his B.S. in 1951 and his D.D.S. in 1956. Upon completion of his degree in dentistry, Dr. Ince enlisted in the U.S. Air Force earning the rank of captain.

He came to New Haven in 1959 and opened his practice, which spanned a period of 46 years, on Dixwell Avenue. He was a member of local, state, and national dental associations, a lifetime member of the NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Beta Tau Boulè. A self-taught cabinet maker, Dr. Ince produced quality pieces of furniture.

He is survived by his children Nancy M. Ince of West Haven and Harold S. Ince Jr. (Robert P. Schiavone) of Commerce, Mich., nieces, nephews, godchildren and close friends. A celebration of his life will be held, Tuesday 11 a.m. at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511.
