Herbert Joseph Brown, 92

Herbert Joseph Brown, 92, departed this life at his home in New York City after a long illness.

Herbert Joseph Brown was born July 17, 1925, in New Haven to the late William Henry and Priscilla Weeks Brown.

At age 18, Herbert entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. His life-long passion for knowledge led him to pursue his college education, graduating from the University of Connecticut. He achieved bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology and for decades was a lay analyst. In 1984, Mr. Brown became a lifetime member of the NAACP.

He retired from the City of New York Human Resources Administration as assistant director of child support enforcement. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, his long-term companion and caregiver, Keith Snape (nephew), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends in the U.S. and abroad. He was predeceased by three brothers, Samuel Brown, William Billy” Brown and Solomon Brown, four sisters, Flora Kyles, Geraldine Epps Rawlinson, Betty Snape and Shirley Trimble.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will be held privately with the family. To leave a message of comfort to the Brown family visit, www.hkhfuneralservices.com.
