Notice of Application by The United Illuminating Company for Relocation and Rebuild of 115-kV Electric Transmission Lines in the Municipalities of Milford, Orange, West Haven, and New Haven, Connecticut

Pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes § 16- 50l(b) and the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies § 16 – 50l‑1(e), notice is hereby given that on or about February 28, 2022, The United Illuminating Company (UI) will file an application with the Connecticut Siting Council (Council), 10 Franklin Square, New Britain, Connecticut, for the issuance of a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need (Application) for the upgrade (relocation and rebuild) and operation of 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines located between UI’s Milvon and West River Substations in southern New Haven County. The Milvon to West River Railroad Transmission Line 115-kV Rebuild Project (Project) will involve removing UI’s existing 115-kV lines from catenary structures that span the Metro-North Railroad tracks and rebuilding the 115-kV lines on independent monopoles to be primarily located within property along the railroad corridor owned by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The Project is needed to maintain the reliability of the transmission grid.

Details on the Project will be included in UI’s Application to the Council. If approved by the Council, Project construction is expected to begin in late 2023 with an in-service date of mid-2028.
