Desmond Claxton

Desmond Claxton departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 2021. He was born in Church Ground Village, Nevis, West Indies and resettled in New Haven.

Desmond worked for US Steel New Haven, New Haven Police Department, delivered newspapers for the New Haven Register, made furniture at Yale Manufacturing, and retired from Yale University Maintenance Department at the Hall of Graduate Studies. Desmond also coached Walter Pop Smith Little League Baseball Team Congress Hardware where he led his team to multiple championships. 

Desmond Claxton was predeceased by his mother, Mildred Claxton; father, Levi Weeks; and brother, Carlton Claxton.

Desmond Claxton is survived by his loving wife: Margaret Claxton; siblings, Virginia Gole” Hendrickson, Reginald Weeks, Rita Weeks, and Iris Blackman; children, Claudette Sandra Collins, Marva Lewis, Michael Claxton, Eric Claxton, Charlene Claxton-Diakite, Nikki Claxton, and Travis Claxton; grandchildren, Ebony Glover-Little, Shammica Glover-Jones, Trudy Lewis, Marquirsha Claxton, Tracy Lewis, Jocelyn Claxton, Roland Allick Jr., and Justice Diakite; great-grandchildren, Essence McAdoo, Malachi Jones, Mason Little, Cameron Jones, and Maverick Jones. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 9:00 AM at Bethel AME Church, 255 Goffe St, New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
