Ellis%20Gamble%2C%20Jr.picEllis Gamble, Jr. of Hamden passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on May 28, 2009. He was the husband of Geraldine; father of Gwendolyn E. Gamble (Mason) of Jacksonville, FL; Kelly F. Gamble of Huntsville, AL; and George E. Gamble (Angela) of Deerfield Beach, FL; step-father of Keith Demmons (Angela) of Upper Marlboro, MD; and brother-in-law of Eunice Gamble of Orlando, FL. Ellis was born in Fargo, GA on May 17, 1930 to Ellis and Hattie Gamble. He was stationed in Korea while serving in the U. S. Army. He relocated to Connecticut where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticut. He later attended Southern Connecticut State University where he earned a Master’s Degree. He was the Federal Probation Officer incharge of the Bridgeport Probation office for the U. S. District Court until his retirement in 1999. Ellis had been a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in New Haven since 1975. In June of 2003, he graduated from the Ministry Exploration and Education Program in the Diocese of Connecticut. He had served as both Junior and Senior wardens, led weekly Bible study classes, and taught educational seminars. Rev. Tracy Johnson-Russell says, Ellis is my rock. I can really depend on him.” Ellis was pre-deceased by his son, Elliott R. Gamble and his brother, James C. Gamble. He is survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church: 266 Shelton Avenue, New Haven.
