Cynthia Gamble Parker
Cynthia Gamble Parker, 43, entered into rest on September 2nd, 2006, at her residence in New Haven. Cynthia was born November 19th, 1962, in Sumpter, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Mammon Gamble and Betty Lane. She was survived by her husband Douglas Parker. She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Jajuan Gamble of New Haven, and two daughters, LaTeisha and Cynthia Parker of New Haven. Mrs. Parker also leaves one brother, Anthony Gamble of South Carolina, and a host of relatives and friends. Juanita Jenkins

Juanita Jenkins, 38, of New Haven, entered into rest on September 3, 2006, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. Juanita was born November 5, 1967, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the daughter of the Ester Jenkins of New Haven, CT. Juanita was employed at Visel’s Pharmacy located on Dixwell Ave. in New Haven. She leaves to cherish her memories; one daughter, Tynequa Jenkins and two sons, James Murphy and Kishaun Jenkins all of New Haven. Ms. Jenkins also leaves to cherish her memories; one sister, Denise Marks and five brothers, Johnnie Singleton, Roger Jenkins, William Kemp, Benjamin Jenkins and Nihjia Martin, all of New Haven; and a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2006, at Trinity Temple, 285 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT at 9:00 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 4:00pm – 8:00 pm. Gerald Ledbetter

Gerald Ledbetter, 57 of Shelton Avenue, departed this life on September 1, 2006 after a long illness at The CT Hospice. He was born in New Haven on December 28, 1948, the son of Ruth J. Ledbetter of New Haven and the late Terrell Ledbetter. Mr. Ledbetter was the beloved husband of Cynthia Ledbetter, father of Timika Morton and Gerald Ledbetter of Hamden and the grandfather to 3 grandchildren. He leaves sisters Dorothy Wells (Eugene) and Geraldine L. Cox, brother Kenneth Ledbetter (Mary) of New Haven. Gerald graduated from Richard C. Lee High in 1968 and attended Eli Whitney and South Central Community College. He retired from the Southern New England Telephone Company. He was predeceased by sister Paula Ledbetter and brothers James and Terrell Ledbetter. A celebration of his life will be held at Bethel AME Church 255 Goffe St. New Haven, CT on Thursday September 7th at 11 am. Anna Mae Maxwell

Anna Mae Maxwell, 57, of New Haven, died August 26, 2006. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the devoted daughter to the late Olivia Harvey Maxwell, cherished mother to Kent Nathaniel Harvey Maxwell, and adored grandmother Nana” to her granddaughters, Marlena Olivia and MiKayla Nichole Maxwell and grandson Kai Taveres Maxwell . A retired registered nurse for the State of Connecticut and a breast cancer survivor, she had earned her degree from Quinnipiac University. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Howard K. Hill Funeral Home 1287 Chapel Street New Haven, CT. Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private. William L. Alexander, aka Bill”

Bill Alexander, formerly of 10 Hard Street, New Haven, died August 19, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He was employed by YUDH for 42 years and an active member of Local 35. Bill is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Eubanks, Verniece Hall-Santos, and Sharon Y. Bordeaux, and five sons, Andrew and David Hall, William, Daniel, and Kenneth Alexander. One brother Jacob Alexander, and one aunt Bertha Mae Ingram. He is predeceased by his wife Mercedes, and two sons, Shedrick and Norman. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday Aug. 27, 2006, at 6 p.m. at Trinity Temple COGIC 285 Dixwell Ave. New Haven. Ruby McClam

Ruby McClam, 78, beloved mother and grandmother, died after a long illness at the Hamden Health Care Center, on August 19, 2006. She was the wife of the late Raymond McClam. Mrs. McClam was born November 5, 1927, in Georgetown, South Carolina, to the late John C. Wright and Mary E. Green Wright. She was a hairdresser and cosmetologist in New Haven for many years and the former owner and operator of Ruby’s Swirl and Curl” Salon. She was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. McClam was a Past Matron for Eureka Chapter No.2, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, Eureka, Inc., Past Royal Commandress of Miriam Court No.1 Order of Cyrenes, Bridgeport, CT, Past Grand Royal Commandress of the Most Royal Prince Hall Grand Court Order of Cyrenes, State of Connecticut, Inc. Mrs. McClam is survived by three daughters, Barbara McClam Joyner and Mary C. Freeman of Hamden, CT and Denise (Michael) Brown of Springfield, VA, her sister, Margaret Wright Staggers of Marion, South Carolina, six grand children, two great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends. Her brothers Marion, Louis, Abraham, and John C. Wright and her sister Annie B. Green predeceased her. There will be a viewing Friday, August 25, 2006 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at St Lukes Episcopal Church 111 Whalley Avenue, New Haven, CT. A mass of celebration will be held Saturday, August 26,2006 at 9:30 a.m. Friends may call before the mass at 8a at the Church. Velma Bullock

Velma Bullock, 75, of New Haven, entered into rest on Thursday, August 10, 2006, at the Hospital of St. Raphael. She was the wife of the late Quin Bullock, Jr. Velma was born May 15th 1931 in Marietta, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Malachi McEachin and Dora Ella Ford McEachin. She was the mother of the church” at Thomas Chapel Church of Christ. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Donna Willliams, Mae Bullock of New Haven, and Gladys Bullock-Smart of Hamden, five sons, Robert Bullock of Myrtle Beach, S.C. James, Quin III, Mark and Henry all of New Haven, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by a son Marvin Bullock, a brother Wilton McEachin and grandson Jermar Smart. Dennis Harold Gallman

Mr. Dennis Harold Gallman, 62, formerly of Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2006. Born September 24, 1943, in Derby, CT, son of Annie B. Gallman and the late James E. Gallman, Sr., he was employed by Brandfon Motors, Inc. in Branford, CT for the past 16 years and previously employed by Saab. He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters Darlene Stanton (Derek) of New Carrollton, MD, Lisa M. Gallman of Laural, MD, LaTasha M. Gallman of New Haven, CT and a son, Tyrelle Evans of New Haven, CT. Brothers: James E. Gallman, Jr. (Margie) of New Haven, CT and Frederick Gallman of Hartford, CT. Sisters: Etta G. Burke (Samuel) and Lillie Marie Gallman of New Haven, CT. Grandchildren: Laticia Carter and John Venus, Jr. of New Carrollton, MD; Shakeyla Bell and Donte Bell of Laural, MD. A great granddaughter, Serenity Carter of New Carrollton, MD. Also left to mourn, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Harold was predeceased by his sister, Linda L. Gallman.
