Armelia Moore, 95 of 195 Starr Street, New Haven was called home on March 28, 2007. Born in Macon, Georgia on July 20, 1911 to the late Mattie Cementery and Johnny Bivens; she was the wife of the late Dock Moore. She was the mother and missionary of New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters Melinda Doward and Betty Murphy of New Haven; Earline Howard and Sufronnie Bess of White Plains, NY; sons Charlie, Nathaniel, William, Joseph and James Moore, all of New Haven and Johnny Moore of Bethel, North Carolina; 40 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and a host of great, great grandchildren, her god brother John Penson and several other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by daughters Ernestine and Mattie Mae and her son Dock Jr. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 11:00 am at Friendship Baptist Church, 26 Edwards St., Hamden. Dr. Richard H. Timpson, Jr., 84, of New Haven, passed away peacefully at the Hospital of St. Raphael’s, March 26, 2007. Born January 26, 1923 in New York to the late Richard H. Timpson Sr. and Adele Wood Timpson, he was the beloved husband of Agnes Wethers Timpson for 59 years. Dr. Timpson, a general practitioner, served the greater New Haven area for almost fifty years. A member of the CT Guardsmen since 1958, he was also a longtime member of the I.B.P.O.E. of New Haven and the Ashanti Club of Connecticut. Dr. Timpson has been honored by the New Haven NAACP, Elks Lodge #141 and many others for his service to the community and medical profession. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Richard H. III (Peggy) of Takoma Park, MD; Robert (Holly) of Brewster, NY; Roger (Janice) of Baltimore, MD; three daughters, Theresa Timpson (Tom) of San Francisco, CA; Maria Timpson of New Haven; and Helene Carter (Damon) of Framingham, MA; eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. MSGT Harold E. Gomes-Gomez, 73 of New Haven passed away suddenly March 19, 2007 at home. Son of the late Jose Gomes and Annie L. Golds Gomes, Harold was born January 31, 1934 in New Haven. He was a graduate of Hillhouse High School. He was a retired Air Force veteran having served in both the US Air Force and Marines. He is survived by his daughter, Star Gomez of Sumpter, SC; one sister, Gloria Ammons of Hamden; five brothers, Alfred Gomes of New Haven; August Gomes (Nancy) of San Francisco, CA; James Gomes (Johnnie) of Chattanooga, TN; Elliott Gomes of New Haven and Patrick Gomes of Oakland, CA; grandsons Davion, Kinyan and Nazavier of Sumpter, SC; aunts Ann Traynham of New Haven and Catherine Perry of Stamford; a dear friend, Barbara Nelson of Hamden and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Nathaniel “Nat” Kotey

On March 15, 2007 at his home with his wife of 33 years by his side, Nathaniel Afutu Kotey “Nat” of New Haven entered into eternal rest after a brief illness. He leaves to rejoice in the memories and life they shared his beloved wife, Melanese E. Kotey, his loving children, daughter Beverly Kotey of England; sons Alioune and Etienne.  Born in Accra, Ghana on August 9, 1948, Nat was the 5th son of the late, Joseph Sasraku Kotey and madam Elizabeth lamiley Lamtey. At the time of his death Nat was employed at the Hartford Symphony, Hartford, CT as an account manager. Previously, Nat worked as finance director for the City of New Haven Housing Authority. He was a former member of the New Haven camera club. Nat received his BS in accounting from Lehman College (CUNY) in 1981. Besides his wife and children, to celebrate his life are his brothers Nathaniel Amon, Wilmot Amasa, Seth Djanie and sister Rebecca Adei Kotey; his mother in-law Edith Ince, whom he lovingly refereed to as “Mom”; a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives, family and friends. His parents and brother, Eric Neequay Kotey preceeded him in death. Shirley Barbour Tolson-Wilcox

Shirley Barbour Tolson-Wilcox, 80, was born in New Haven, CT on January 13, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Leona A. Walker and Melvin Barbour. She attended Winchester School within the inner city of New Haven. She was a caterer for the Yale Graduate Club, and cardiologist, Dr. Glen of New Haven. She was also a member of the Dixwell Senior Citizens Organization as their Secretary and Treasurer. Sister Wilcox also attended Community Baptist Church, was a District Missionary, a member of the bereavement committee, and served as a Deaconess. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Wayne Melvin Tolson, Sr. (Walterine) and grandson Wayne Melvin Tolson, Jr. and great grandchildren Taina Tolson and Wayne Melvin Tolson III along with a host of nieces and nephews. Born February 26, 1926 in Dinwiddie, VA to John and Summer Graves.  Mr. Graves retired after 42 years from Sergeant Manufacturing, where he was as a machine operator. Mr. Graves provided a loving home to several children as a foster parent for 32 years. Joseph Bostic of Hamden, died February 1, 2007 after a very long illness.  He was the husband of Shirley J. Bostic, born February 11, 1932 in Ansonia, CT.  He was the son of the late Benjamin and Daisy Byrd Bostic and step-son of the late Gussie Bostic.  He retired in 1992 from the U.S. Postal Service where he served as president of the National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees.  He was an honorably discharged Veteran of the United States Army.  Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Robin K. Bostic and Nicole J. Edwards (Lee) of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; one sister: Ann Ward of Hamden; one brother: Edward Bostic of Ansonia, CT; three sister-in-laws: Shirley M. Bostic, Marian Bostic, and Magnolia Bostic of Ansonia, CT; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was predeceased by three brothers: Owen Bostic, Rev. Grover Bostic, and Roosevelt Bostic; and three sisters: Bessie Bostic, Thelma Webb, and Janell Bostic.—

Bordeaux, 89 of Bryden Terrace, Hamden died in Yale New Haven Hospital, Friday, February 2, 2007.  He was born July 18, 1917 in Dumas, Arkansas. to the late Lawrence Bordeaux, Sr and Lillie Mae Jones.  Bishop Bordeaux was the founder and first president of the Hill and Dwight Ministers Alliance.  Bishop Bordeaux also served as the annual Bishop of the Northern Connecticut and Massachusetts annual conference of the UFWB Churches BISHOP LAWRENCE BORDEAUX IS SURVIVED BY ONE DAUGHTER, CATHERINE CALHOUN, WITH WHOM HE RESIDED; FIVE GRANDSONS: DAVON MCDUFFIE, MICHAEL AND JASON CALHOUN, WENDELL AND KEVIN MCDUFFIE; ONE GRANDDAUGHTER TINISHA MCDUFFIE; AND ONE GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER, JAZMINE. HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY THREE BROTHERS: CHESTER (IMORGEN), BISHOP HESTER BORDEAUX, PASTOR OF MACEDONIA CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST, NEW HAVEN (SHARON), AND SAMUEL (GRACIE); THREE SISTERS: MARY ELIZABETH OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN; AZALEA HAYES OF RICHMOND, CA, AND ADA HILLERY OF WATERBURY, CT; TWO BROTHERS-IN-LAW: HENRY BURNS AND LEMUEL WALKER; AS WELL AS A HOST OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS. BISHOP LAWRENCE BORDEAUX IS PRE-DECEASED BY HIS WIFE OF 64 YEARS, MOTHER ESSIE BORDEAUX; ONE DAUGHTER, TERRI MCDUFFIE; AND ONE GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER KEYA MCDUFFIE. Charles N. Spears, Sr., 73, of Greta St., West Haven, died in Yale New Haven Hospital, Thursday, February 1, 2007.  He was born July 4, 1934 in Waynesboro, VA to the late Virgil Spears and Josephine Steppe, both of Waynesboro, VA.  Mr. Spears retired from Sargent Manufacturing after 20 years.  He is survived by sons Charles N. Spears, Jr. of New Haven; Virgil Spears of Massachusetts; Terrell Spears of Hamden; daughters Rita Kettle of Maryland; Alona Spears of Hamden; and Tina Spears of New Haven; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren Brother of Pearl Johnston of Staunton, VA and Howard Spears of Waynesboro, VA.  Mr. Spears is predeceased by Ruth Randolph Spears and Ruth Dix Spears; brothers Joseph Spears and Lee Edwards Spears of Waynesboro, VA. James H. McMillan, Sr.

James H. McMillan, Sr., 84, of New Haven, died Friday January 26, 2007. He was the husband of the late Viola Langston McMillan, born February 11, 1922 in Allendale, SC. He was the son of Willie and Mattie Ritter McMillan. He retired from Interstate Containers in New Haven. Mr. McMillan leaves to mourn, four sons, James, Jr., Willie, Jerome McMillan and David Suggs all of New Haven; two daughters Ann McMillan and Lisa Newton of New Haven; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter, three brothers and two sisters. A service celebrating his life will be held at the Salvation and Deliverance Church, 127 Thompson Street, New Haven, on Saturday February 3rd, 2007 at 9 am. Virginia E. Holmes, 76, of Hamden, wife of Theodore R. Holmes, Sr., entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2007, at the CT Hospice. She was born on March 16, 1930 to the late Richmond B. & Virginia W. Johnson. She began her career at Timothy Dwight School as a library assistant. She retired from Lincoln Bassett School were she was a Para-professional Teaching Assistant. She served 36 years in the New Haven Public School System. She was a loving and devoted mother of Theodore R. Holmes, Jr. (Veronica) of West Haven and Craig Holmes(Dawn) of Hamden; She is also survived by two sisters Barbara Clarke (George) of New Haven, and Lorraine Sizemore (Howard) of Hamden; six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
