Tonya Melissa Rountree, 41, of New Haven, departed this life on Feb. 20 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
She was the daughter of Ida Mae Rountree-Green of New Haven and the late Fred Brunson and the stepdaughter of James Green. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 19, 1969.
Tonya worked for the New Haven Board of Education as a food service worker at the Helene Grant Head Start program.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Tinicquia Rountree and son Shane Dunkley Rountree, both of New Haven; brothers Lt. Terrance Rountree (Shelly) of New Haven, Cy Greene and Reggie Greene, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sister Sherrie Blake, of Brooklyn; grandson Anthony Sledge Jr.; maternal grandparents Hazel and Mary Rountree of Tyner, N.C.; aunts Catherine Rountree of New Haven, and Carol Thompson and Maggie Pearson of Brooklyn; uncles Johnnie Lee Rountree (Mary) of New of Haven and Willie Rountree (Clementine) of Sunbury, N.C.; a dear friend, Gerald Nicholas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Gerod Gaskin Jr., and a brother, Steven Rountree.
A celebration of life will take place Feb. 26 at 12 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 26 Edwards Street, Hamden. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Interment is private.
