Vandy Abdulai, 83

The Late Mr. Vandy Abdulai was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone on Aug. 15, 1940. His parents were the Late Pa Bockarie Kargbo and Madam Boi Koroma. He attended the Tower Hill Municipal Primary School in Freetown and furthered his education by attending Methodist Boys High School in Freetown, where he pursued his secondary education. Vandy later entered the Congo Cross Technical Institute in Freetown to study Engineering and Technical Drawing. Upon completion of his course of studies at the Congo Cross Technical Institute with a Higher National Diploma (HND), he then moved to Germany to pursue advanced studies in engineering. Upon returning to Sierra Leone from Germany, he worked for a private engineering company in Freetown for a couple of years. He later left to work for the Corporation of American Relief Everywhere also known as CARE, in the Northern City of Makeni, Sierra Leone, the SIEROMCO Mines in Mokanji, and SIERRA RUTILE Mines in the lmperi Chiefdom, all located in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone.

Following the outbreak of the civil war in Sierra Leone, he migrated to Conakry, Guinea, in 1995, where he worked as a private engineer and contractor until he migrated to the United States in September of 2004. He was a friend to many Sierra Leoneans and Liberians in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While in Pennsylvania, he associated with two main churches in the Liberian Community — The Global Impact Ministries International and Gospel Living World Ministry.

A strong family man, Vandy Abdulai is survived by his loving family which consisted of his beloved sister Kadiatu Kargbo; 17 children, Mariatu Lahun, Zainab Kargbo, Zainabu Kargbo, Sylvia Kargbo, Jestina Kargbo, Winifred Kargbo, Boi Kargbo, Abass Kargbo, Abdurahman Kargbo, Tejan Kargbo, Thomas Kargbo, Patrick Kargbo, Ibrahim Kargbo, Bockarie Kargbo, Fouday Kargbo, Famata Kargbo, and lshmail Kargbo; ln-laws, The Senessies of Mano Dasse Chiefdom in Sierra Leone; 27 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; friends, Bishop Jerry Willie and Congregation of the Full Gospel living World Ministry, Bishop Selah Decku and Congregation of the Global Impact Ministries International, and Mr. Abdul Mansaray; professional colleagues; and the Liberian, Sierra Leonean, and Guinean Community of Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511.
